Anointing Of The Sick
The Catholic Church professes and teaches that the Sacred Anointing of the Sick is one of the seven Sacraments of the New Testament, that it was instituted by Christ and that it is "alluded to in St Mark's Gospel (Mk. 6:13) and recommended and promulgated to the faithful by St James the apostle and brother of the Lord. 'If any one of you is ill', he says, 'he/she should send for the priests of the church, and they must anoint him/her with oil in the name of the Lord and pray over them. The prayer of faith will save the sick person and the Lord will raise him up again; and if they have committed any sins, they will be forgiven (James 5:14-15)
This Sacrament is available to all those who seek healing in body, mind or spirit. Please contact Fr Bernard if you would like to receive it, especially if you are going into hospital. The Sacrament of Anointing will also be administered during the 9.30am Mass on the First Saturday of every month (except August)
